Keiho Ando Japanese Doll Shop (2)

34
Tadahiko Ando, the third generation master of the shop, is working hard to preserve the traditions of Kyoto dolls. I even found a doll with his face ^^
The main speciality of the shop is Kyo-hina ningyo, dolls made for Hina-matsuri or Girls' Day celebrated on March 3. The dolls representing the emperor and the empress, as well as court ladies, musicians, ministers and servants are displayed on a special platform :
By the way, the dolls wear twelve-layer kimono that was worn by court ladies in Heian period.
On the first floor of the shop, you also can find Ichimatsu dolls representing little girls or boys in kimono. It seems that they are the most adored among various Japanese dolls..
